Joseph & Algesa O'Sickey: A Valentine for Algesa (Trumbull branch)

Among the most honored painters active in the our region, Joseph O'Sickey was awarded the Cleveland Arts Prize in Visual Arts in 1974. The artist was born in Detroit in 1918. He graduated from the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland Institute of Art) in 1940 and taught at Ohio State University (1946-47), Akron Art Institute (1949-52), Western Reserve University School of Architecture (1956-64), and Kent State University (1964-89). His late wife, Algesa, was a well-known sculptor in the region.

Free Family Day (all locations): Stories and Art

Free Sunday Family Days at the Youngstown Butler, 1:30 pm. Listen to a story and create a work of art based on your museum experience. This program is geared for pre-school through primary grade children. October 24 & November 21, 2010; January 16, February 20, March 20, & April 17, 2011. Art & Reading at the Butler Trumbull Branch, 2:00 pm. A Butler art instructor and the children's librarian from the Howland Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Library join for an afternoon of art and literature. For children 10 years of age and younger accompanied by an adult. October 16 & November 20, 2010, and January 15, February 19, March 19, & April 16, 2011. Salem Family Day 11:00 am. Using a museum exhibit as the source for an art activity, Butler art instructors guide families as they get to know the museum.
